JAMB Delays 2025 UTME Registration Due to NIN Integration Challenges

JAMB Delays 2025 UTME Registration Due to NIN Integration Challenges

In a recent development, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a postponement in the commencement of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration. This delay is primarily attributed to unforeseen challenges associated with the integration of the National Identification Number (NIN) into the registration process.

NIN Integration: A Double-Edged Sword

The incorporation of NIN into the UTME registration is a strategic move aimed at enhancing the integrity of the examination process. However, this initiative has encountered unexpected hurdles, leading to the postponement. JAMB's spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, emphasized the board's commitment to ensuring a seamless registration experience for candidates. He stated, "This delay is caused by some unforeseen circumstances occasioned by our determined effort to have NIN integration.

Anticipated Registration Timeline

While the exact date for the commencement of the 2025 UTME registration remains unannounced, JAMB has indicated that the process will begin in January 2025. The board has successfully generated a satisfactory pool of examination items, completed the accreditation of Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers, and is finalizing preparations to ensure a smooth registration process.

Preparatory Steps for Prospective Candidates

In light of the upcoming registration, JAMB advises prospective candidates to take proactive measures to facilitate a hassle-free experience:

  1. Obtain the National Identification Number (NIN): Candidates should ensure they have a valid NIN, as it is a mandatory requirement for the UTME registration.

  2. Secure a Unique Phone Number: Each candidate must have a phone number that has not been previously used for JAMB registrations. This number will be essential for generating the profile code required for the registration process.

  3. Profile Creation: Candidates can initiate the creation of their profiles by sending a text message: NIN (space) followed by their 11-digit NIN number to 55019. This step is crucial to avoid delays once the registration portal becomes active.

Advisory on Biometric Verification

JAMB has issued a strict warning regarding the use of henna, also known as 'Laali' or 'Lale.' The application of henna on the fingers can lead to significant challenges during biometric verification, as it obstructs the process. Candidates attempting to remove henna designs using harsh chemicals may inadvertently damage the whorls on their fingers, making biometric verification and authentication extremely difficult, if not impossible. Therefore, candidates are advised to protect all ten fingers during both the registration and examination processes. Successful biometric verification is mandatory for entry into the examination hall. Without it, candidates will be unable to access the examination questions.

Stay Informed

JAMB assures all stakeholders that the delay is temporary and that the registration process will commence shortly. Candidates are encouraged to stay updated by following official JAMB communications and to exercise patience as the board finalizes the integration process to ensure a seamless registration experience.

For the most accurate and up-to-date information, candidates should regularly visit JAMB's official website and consult reputable news outlets.
