Kano state government rejects tax reform bills
Kano State Government has categorically rejected the controversial tax reform bills currently under review in the National Assembly, proposed by the Tinubu-led administration.
Speaking during the 2025 New Year celebration at Filin Mahaha, Kofar Naisa Open Theatre, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by his Deputy, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, firmly reiterated the state's opposition to the proposed reforms. The governor described the bills as detrimental to the economic stability of Kano State and inconsistent with the interests of its residents.
Yusuf emphasized that the tax reforms, if enacted, would place an undue burden on businesses and individuals in Kano, undermining the state’s progress and development goals. He called on lawmakers to prioritize policies that foster economic growth and empower citizens rather than implementing measures that could stifle entrepreneurship and local commerce.
The rejection of these bills highlights the Kano State Government’s commitment to defending the rights and welfare of its people against policies it deems unfair. This bold stance is expected to spark further national debate on the future of tax reform in Nigeria.
