El-Rufai Backs Naja’atu, Reveals 2006 FEC Meeting Where NSA Ribadu Accused Tinubu of Corruption

El-Rufai Backs Naja’atu, Reveals 2006 FEC Meeting Where NSA Ribadu Accused Tinubu of Corruption

Former Kaduna Governor Supports Claims, Shares Evidence of Past Corruption Allegations

In a dramatic and unexpected twist, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has endorsed prominent Northern politician Naja’atu Muhammad in her claims that National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu once accused President Bola Tinubu of corruption. This assertion is said to have been made during a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in 2006.

The controversy began when Naja’atu Muhammad, in a viral TikTok video, alleged that Ribadu, who was then serving as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), accused Tinubu and other high-ranking politicians of corrupt practices. Ribadu responded by vehemently denying the allegations and demanded a public apology and retraction from Naja’atu. However, El-Rufai, taking to social media, refuted Ribadu's denial, claiming that the former EFCC chairman must be suffering from "serious amnesia" and affirming that Naja’atu's statements were accurate.

El-Rufai bolstered his claims by referencing "evidence" from Senate records and a Daily Trust report from February 2007, both of which he said corroborate Naja’atu's allegations. He also pointed to the FEC meeting conclusions from 2006, which he argued, contain Ribadu's accusations against several officials, including Tinubu. These records, El-Rufai suggested, could be subpoenaed from the Cabinet Secretariat of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) for verification.

This disclosure has intensified the political debate, focusing attention on Ribadu's past remarks and the present political dynamics. El-Rufai's intervention has added complexity to the controversy, challenging Ribadu's credibility and highlighting the critical need for transparency and accountability in public office.

The public reaction to El-Rufai's statements has been mixed. Some have commended his boldness in bringing past allegations to light, while others warn against reigniting old disputes. Nonetheless, this development has rekindled discussions about the integrity of political leaders and the role of anti-corruption agencies in Nigeria.

As this story unfolds, the emphasis remains on the quest for truth and justice within Nigeria's political landscape. The public eagerly awaits further developments, hoping for a resolution that upholds the principles of integrity and accountability.
