"EFCC Honors Fallen Officer Aminu Salisu: Academy Building Named After Hero Killed by Suspected Fraudster in Anambra
In a solemn tribute to valor and sacrifice, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dedicated the administrative block of its Academy in Karu, Abuja, to the late Assistant Superintendent of the EFCC (ASE II), Aminu Sahabi Salisu. This honor commemorates Salisu's unwavering commitment to combating financial crimes, a commitment that ultimately cost him his life during an operation in Anambra State on January 17, 2025.
The Fateful Operation in Anambra State
On that ill-fated day, Salisu, alongside his team, was executing a legitimate operation targeting suspected internet fraudsters in Ifite, Awka, Anambra State. The operation, meticulously documented with the Anambra State Police Command, initially proceeded without incident, resulting in the arrest of 37 individuals from a two-story building. However, the situation took a tragic turn when one of the suspects, Joshua Chukwubueze Ikechukwu, upon identifying the operatives through his closed-circuit television (CCTV) system, refused entry and resorted to gunfire. This unprovoked attack led to Salisu's untimely death and left another officer injured.
EFCC's Response and Commitment to Justice
In the aftermath of this tragedy, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede announced the decision to name the Academy's administrative building after Salisu during the 2024 Awards and Recognition Ceremony held at the EFCC Academy in Karu.Olukoyede emphasized that this gesture ensures that officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice are eternally remembered. He also reaffirmed the Commission's unwavering support for the families of fallen and injured officers, pledging comprehensive assistance to uphold their welfare.
The EFCC has raised alarms about the escalating dangers posed by internet fraudsters, noting a disturbing trend of these individuals arming themselves and engaging in violent crimes, including kidnapping and ritual killings. The Commission urges the public to dispel any misconceptions of these criminals as mere "Yahoo boys," highlighting the severe threat they pose to societal safety and security.
The dedication of the Academy's administrative building in Salisu's name stands as a poignant reminder of the perils faced by those on the front lines of the fight against corruption. It also symbolizes the EFCC's steadfast resolve to continue its mission unabated, ensuring that the sacrifices of its officers are not in vain.As the Commission mourns the loss of a dedicated operative, it also honors his legacy by reinforcing its commitment to justice and integrity in Nigeria.
This tribute not only memorializes Salisu's bravery but also serves as a clarion call to all stakeholders to support the EFCC's efforts in eradicating financial crimes and upholding the rule of law.
