In a significant development for the town of Eruwa in Oyo State, the traditional stool of the Eleruwa has been filled after a six-year interregnum.The town's kingmakers have unanimously selected a new traditional ruler, signaling a pivotal moment in Eruwa's cultural and political landscape.

The Eleruwa stool became vacant following a Supreme Court ruling that removed Oba Samuel Adegbola from the position nearly six years ago.Since then, the community has been without a traditional ruler, leading to a period of uncertainty and anticipation among the residents.

Selection Process

The selection of the new Eleruwa took place during a meeting held at the Eleruwa’s palace, Oke-Oba, in Eruwa. After approximately two hours of deliberation, all six kingmakers reached a consensus on one of the 18 contenders for the position.The name of the chosen candidate has been forwarded to the Oyo State government through the local government and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters for necessary action.


The selection of a new Eleruwa has been met with mixed reactions from the Eruwa community.While many residents are hopeful that the new traditional ruler will bring stability and progress to the town, others have expressed concerns about the selection process and the need for transparency.The Eruwa Youth Movement (EYM) has appealed to the governor of Oyo State, Mr. Seyi Makinde, to expedite the installation of the new monarch and ensure that the process is conducted in accordance with the town's customs and traditions.
