FG Approves ₦50 Billion for Water Projects in FCT Satellite Towns: Transforming Lives Through Infrastructure Development
In a significant move to enhance infrastructure in Nigeria's Federal Capital Territory (FCT), President Bola Tinubu has sanctioned a substantial ₦50 billion investment aimed at providing potable water to the region's satellite towns. This initiative underscores the administration's commitment to improving essential services in underserved areas.
The announcement was made by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike during the inauguration of a newly reconstructed 5-kilometer road in Kuje Area Council. He emphasized that the approved funds have been incorporated into the 2025 national budget, reflecting the government's dedication to addressing water scarcity in the satellite towns.
Minister Wike highlighted a recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the China Geo-Engineering Corporation (CGC) to spearhead the water provision projects. He stated, "Sometime last year, we went to China. We signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a company called CGC to provide water to the satellite towns in the FCT, and one of the area councils is Kuje Area Council." This collaboration aims to ensure that areas like Kuje benefit directly from the initiative.
Beyond the water project, President Tinubu has also greenlit the rehabilitation of key roadways in the FCT, including the Kuje-Pegi road and the Kuje-Kwaku road. These infrastructural developments are poised to enhance connectivity and stimulate economic activities within the satellite towns.
Minister Wike assured residents that the administration is committed to elevating the standard of living in these areas, stating, "We will develop satellite towns to the point that you will no longer be interested in leaving your communities to come to the city to live.He further emphasized that the current administration's focus transcends political affiliations, aiming instead at tangible improvements in the lives of all Nigerians.
The chairman of Kuje Area Council, Abdullahi Sabo, lauded the government's efforts, noting that the minister's vision for transforming satellite towns is becoming a reality. He highlighted the positive changes in Kuje following these interventions and appealed for the extension of ongoing projects to further benefit surrounding communities.
This strategic investment in water infrastructure and road rehabilitation is anticipated to significantly improve the quality of life for residents in Abuja's satellite towns, addressing long-standing challenges related to water scarcity and accessibility. As these projects come to fruition, they are expected to foster sustainable development and economic growth in the region.
In summary, the federal government's approval of ₦50 billion for water provision in the FCT's satellite towns, coupled with the rehabilitation of critical road networks, marks a pivotal step towards equitable development. These initiatives reflect a broader commitment to ensuring that all regions, regardless of their proximity to the city center, receive essential services and infrastructure improvements.
