Governor Soludo's Bold Initiative of N5 Million Reward to Combat Kidnapping and Armed Robbery in Anambra State
In a decisive move to tackle the escalating security challenges in Anambra State, Governor Chukwuma Soludo has unveiled Operation 'Udo Ga-Achi' (Peace Shall Prevail), a comprehensive security strategy aimed at eradicating kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent crimes. Central to this initiative is a substantial reward system, offering up to N5 million to individuals who provide credible information leading to the apprehension of criminals or the discovery of their hideouts.
Operation 'Udo Ga-Achi': A Multi-Agency Security Effort
Launched in Awka, the state capital, Operation 'Udo Ga-Achi' represents a collaborative effort involving 2,000 personnel drawn from various security agencies, including the Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and local vigilante groups known as 'Agunechemba'. This united front underscores the government's commitment to restoring peace and security across Anambra State.
Incentivizing Community Participation: The N5 Million Reward
Governor Soludo emphasized the critical role of community involvement in combating crime. To encourage active participation, the government has established a toll-free hotline—5111—for residents to report suspicious activities. Whistleblowers whose information leads to the arrest of kidnappers, armed robbers, or the dismantling of criminal camps are eligible for rewards of up to N5 million, depending on the significance of the information provided.
Additional Measures: Community Rewards and Security Enhancements
Further incentivizing communal vigilance, the government has pledged a monthly reward of N10 million to any community that records zero crime incidents. To bolster the operational capabilities of security agencies, 200 patrol vehicles have been procured and deployed throughout the state. These measures aim to create a robust security network capable of responding swiftly to threats.
In conjunction with the launch of Operation 'Udo Ga-Achi', Governor Soludo signed the Anambra State Homeland Security Bill 2025 into law, providing a legal foundation for the new security measures. Additionally, Igwe Chidubem Iweka of Obosi has been appointed as the chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers’ Council, reflecting the government's intent to integrate traditional institutions into the security architecture.
Security Agencies' Commitment
Speaking on behalf of the security agencies, Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Obono-Itam lauded the government's initiative and reaffirmed the commitment of all security personnel to work collaboratively towards making Anambra State safe and secure for all residents and visitors.
Governor Soludo's multifaceted approach, combining financial incentives, community engagement, and enhanced security operations, represents a proactive strategy to address the complex security challenges facing Anambra State. By fostering a collaborative environment between the government, security agencies, and the populace, the initiative aims to create a safer and more secure state for all.
