NDLEA Apprehends Lagos Socialite and US-Trained Filmmaker for Illicit Drug Trafficking

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recently executed significant operations leading to the arrest of prominent individuals involved in illicit drug activities in Lagos.These arrests underscore the agency's unwavering commitment to combating drug trafficking within Nigeria.




Arrest of Alhaja Aishat Feyisara Ajoke Elediye

On January 1, 2025, NDLEA operatives apprehended 61-year-old Lagos socialite, Alhaja Aishat Feyisara Ajoke Elediye, also known as 'Iya Ruka' in the drug underworld and 'Alhaja Ajoke' in social circles.Her arrest followed the interception of a truckload of imported cannabis linked to her operations.

Details of the Operation

  • Interception of Illicit Consignment: Acting on intelligence, NDLEA officers intercepted a white Isuzu truck carrying 44 jumbo sacks containing 1,540 kilograms of imported cannabis. The vehicle was driven by 41-year-old Abideen Adio, identified as one of Elediye's staff members.

  • Location of Arrest: Following the interception, operatives raided Elediye's residence at 33 Adebayo Oyewole Street, off Ago Palace Way, Okota, Lagos, where she was subsequently arrested.

Background of the Suspect

Elediye had long been on NDLEA's wanted list for leading a drug cartel operating from the Mushin area of Lagos.Publicly, she presented herself as a businesswoman importing fabrics and shoes from China.Additionally, she held the title of Iyalaje of Blessing Sisters, an influential club of society women in Lagos.However, beneath this facade, she orchestrated substantial illicit drug operations.

Arrest of Filmmaker Emeka Emmanuel Mbadiwe

In a separate operation on December 27, 2024, NDLEA officers arrested US-trained filmmaker and motivational speaker, Emeka Emmanuel Mbadiwe, in connection with the importation of a potent strain of cannabis known as 'Loud'.

Operation Details

  • Apprehension of Associate: Earlier that day, NDLEA operatives detained Mbadiwe's associate, Uzoekwe Ugochukwu James, at a warehouse in Ajao Estate, Ikeja.James was dispatched by Mbadiwe to retrieve a shipment of 33 parcels of 'Loud', weighing 17.30 kilograms.

  • Concealment and Shipment: The illicit consignment arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, on December 24, 2024, from the United States via a Delta Airlines flight.The drugs were concealed within large wooden boxes to evade detection.

  • Arrest Location: Following James's apprehension, NDLEA operatives arrested Mbadiwe at his hotel room in the Lekki area of Lagos.
