Ryanair Flight Diverts to Warsaw Amid GPS Jamming Near Russian Border

A Ryanair flight from London's Luton Airport to Vilnius, Lithuania, was forced to divert to Warsaw, Poland, due to GPS signal interference near NATO's border with Russia. The Boeing 737 MAX 8-200, descending to 850 feet for landing at Vilnius Airport, experienced GPS disruptions, prompting the pilot to reroute for safety.

Lithuania's air navigation authority confirmed the interference, noting that other flights landed at Vilnius as usual. The incident is under investigation, with Lithuania's Defence Minister Dovile Sakaliene stating that authorities are looking into the matter.

This event highlights ongoing concerns about GPS jamming in the region. Estonia and Finland have previously accused Russia of similar interference, which Russia has denied. In response, Finland has reinstated radio navigation equipment at three airports to mitigate such disruptions.

The Ryanair flight's diversion underscores the critical need for robust navigation systems to ensure aviation safety amid potential GPS interference.
