Maduka Okoye, the 25-year-old goalkeeper for Nigeria's national team and Serie A club Udinese, is under investigation by the Udine Public Prosecutor's Office for alleged illegal betting activities.The inquiry centers on suspicious betting patterns related to a yellow card he received during a match against Lazio on March 11, 2024.

The investigation was initiated after betting agency Sisal detected unusual gambling activities through their algorithms, noting an abnormal number of bets placed on Okoye receiving a booking during the Lazio-Udinese match. Okoye was cautioned for time-wasting in the 64th minute of the game, which Udinese won 2-1.

Authorities are also examining the involvement of Diego Giordano, a 40-year-old pizzeria owner in Udine, who is alleged to have been part of a verbal agreement regarding the bet at his establishment.Investigators have conducted searches at both Okoye's residence and Giordano's property as part of the probe.
