Alice Weidel Vows to Shut Germany’s Borders, Slash Asylum Benefits, and Enforce Mass Remigration Within 100 Days

In a move that has intensified Germany’s political debate on immigration, Alice Weidel, co-leader of the right-wing Alternative für Deutschland (AfD), has announced a radical plan to overhaul the country’s immigration policies. Speaking at the party’s recent conference in Riesa, Saxony, Weidel pledged to completely close Germany’s borders, drastically cut subsidies for asylum seekers, and implement a large-scale deportation strategy she termed “remigration.”

A Controversial 100-Day Plan

Weidel’s proposal, if implemented, would mark one of the most dramatic shifts in Germany’s immigration policies. She outlined an aggressive timeline, promising that these measures would take effect within the first 100 days of an AfD-led government.

“We will switch from cash to benefits in kind for asylum seekers, cancel social benefits for non-residents, and carry out deportations on a grand scale. If this must be called ‘remigration,’ then let it be called ‘remigration,’” Weidel stated during her address.

The concept of "remigration" has been widely debated in far-right circles, referring to the forced or incentivized return of migrants to their countries of origin. Weidel’s embrace of the term signals the AfD’s hardline stance on migration and national identity.

Tightening Immigration Rules Amid Political Shifts

Germany has been grappling with increased migration challenges, prompting a heated national discussion on border security. In response to growing concerns, the German parliament recently passed a motion advocating stricter immigration and asylum policies—a move Weidel hailed as a “historic day for Germany.”

With the AfD polling at approximately 22% in national surveys, the party has gained significant traction among voters who support stronger border controls and national sovereignty. Weidel’s proposed policies align with this sentiment, further positioning the AfD as a formidable force in the upcoming federal elections.

Potential Impact and Public Reaction

Supporters of the AfD argue that Germany’s current asylum system places an unsustainable financial burden on taxpayers and threatens national security. Weidel’s plan to replace cash benefits with in-kind assistance is seen by her base as a way to deter illegal migration and reduce welfare dependency.

However, critics warn that such policies could lead to severe social unrest, damage Germany’s international standing, and violate human rights obligations. Many political analysts believe that implementing a mass deportation strategy on the scale Weidel envisions would be legally and logistically challenging.

A Nation at a Crossroads

As Germany prepares for its next election cycle, immigration policy remains one of the most divisive topics. Weidel’s proposals are expected to further polarize public opinion, drawing sharp reactions from both advocates and opponents.

With a growing voter base and increasing influence, the AfD’s future success will depend on whether its hardline policies resonate with the broader electorate. As the debate unfolds, Germany stands at a critical juncture in shaping its approach to migration, national identity, and international responsibility.
