Taraba State Government Dismisses ₦100 Billion Diversion Allegation Against Governor Agbu Kefas
Government Refutes Financial Misappropriation Claims
The Taraba State Government has firmly denied allegations that Governor Agbu Kefas diverted over ₦100 billion to a retired general, dismissing the reports as baseless and politically motivated.
Zainab Usman, the Commissioner for Information and Reorientation, described the claims as “false and misleading,” emphasizing that the administration remains committed to financial transparency and developmental progress.
Financial Management and Debt Repayment
In response to the allegations, the government highlighted its ongoing efforts to repay inherited debts while implementing critical infrastructure projects across the state. According to Usman, all state funds are being utilized for legitimate purposes, with no unauthorized disbursements made to any individual or entity.
She further noted that the government has significantly increased Taraba’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from ₦700 million to over ₦2 billion as of December 2024—an achievement that reflects prudent financial management and economic growth.
Strategic Investment in Local Government Development
To counter claims of misused funds, the government pointed to its recent allocation of resources to local councils through the Bureau for Local Government, Traditional, and Chieftaincy Affairs. These funds, officials say, are being utilized for community-based projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure and service delivery at the grassroots level.
Media Responsibility and Ethical Journalism
The Taraba State Government reaffirmed its commitment to press freedom while urging journalists to adhere to ethical reporting standards. Usman criticized the spread of unverified reports, stating that misinformation can mislead the public and damage the credibility of governance efforts.
“We encourage journalists to fact-check information before publication. The public deserves accurate reporting, not baseless accusations,” she stated.
Security and Economic Growth Under Kefas Administration
The government also addressed broader governance issues, highlighting significant progress in security. The administration has provided patrol vehicles, logistics, and intelligence support to security agencies, leading to a substantial reduction in crime across the state.
Additionally, infrastructure projects, including the completion of the TY Danjuma House in Abuja and Jalingo, have reinforced the state’s economic expansion, attracting investors and boosting business confidence.
Looking Ahead: Development and Transparency
Governor Kefas’ administration remains focused on sustainable development, economic growth, and financial accountability. Officials insist that the ongoing projects and reforms are aimed at ensuring long-term progress for the state while debunking any unfounded allegations of corruption.
The government has urged the public to disregard false reports and recognize the administration’s commitment to transparency and service delivery.
The Taraba State Government has categorically rejected claims of financial mismanagement, reaffirming its dedication to responsible governance. With a sharp focus on development, security, and financial integrity, the administration remains steadfast in its mission to uplift the state and ensure prosperity for its citizens.
